One week plan
Friday: Arrive in Narita and stay either:
- at a hotel near Narita airport if you predict to be very tired at the time of arrival.
Disadvantage: Narita has no entertainment. Hotel meals are very expensive, though the hotel fee itself could look deceptively
cheap.
- at Shinjuku, 2 hours away from the airport by train. I like this because, though tired,
I want to get rid of my jet lag by doing things, such as dinner and staying awake at least till 10PM. Disadvantage:
JR railpass is only one week. You may need to pay the local train to Tokyo if you want to start the pass from the second
day.
Saturday:
- Start a one week JR Train Pass by letting JR validate it.
- Hang out in Tokyo
- Meiji Jingu (temple)
- Yasukuni Jinja (temple)
- Dinner
Sunday
- Tokyo. Hang out. (Or could go to Kyoto)
Monday
- Go to Kyoto by Shinkansen (bullet train) by JR railpass.
- Stay at a hotel in Sanjo area (e.g., Hotel Alpha, Royal hotel, etc.)
- Dinner and Drinks in Sanjo-Shijo area. Hangout information, click here.
Tuesday
- Take a one day trip to Nara possibly using JTB sunrise tour or take a local train using JR pass. Just
going there by train may be cheaper since you already have a JR pass.
Wednesday
- Go to Hiroshima using JR pass. Plan to arrive by 11:00PM
- Take a street car to Hiroshima peace museum.
- Eat Okonomiyaki, the Hiroshima meal, for lunch
- Dinner at Suishin, the old famous Hiroshima famous restaurant. The address is Tatemachi 6-7, phone number 082-247-4411,
but any cab driver would know where this old popular restaurant is. This is not the cheapest restaurant.
Thursday
- In the morning, go to Miyajima, an island off the Hiroshima city.
- In the afternoon, take a local JR line called KURE-line to take about two hour (?) ride long the beautiful
insland shoreline.
- From Mihara, which is the end of KURE-line, you take a bullet train to go back to Osaka.
- Stay at a hotel in Shinsaibashi. Dinner at Shinsaibashi area.
Friday
- From Namba station (near Shinsaibashi), take a train to get to Osaka International airport.
Notes: Kyoto is famous for its temples' montly free markets. They sell nice used kimonos.
Worthwhile checking when it happens.
